To enroll a participant in your study with CoughMonitor suite, please complete the following steps:
Assign a Participant Credential
- Open the credentials sheet provided by Hyfe and select one of the participant IDs and associated credentials
- Write down the participant ID and the participant’s name in a dedicated spreadsheet (note: each participant ID and associated password can ONLY be used by one study participant)
- Do not share any personal information about the study participants with Hyfe
Download the Companion App and sign in
- Ask the participant (either in-person or remotely over the phone) to load the Companion App on their smartphone (or the study phone)
- In the search field, type "CoughMonitor Companion" to locate and download the mobile app
- If the participant is using an iOS device, ask them to check if the background app refresh is enabled as described below:
- Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Enable "Background App Refresh" > Wi-fi & Cellular Data
- Ask the participant to open the CoughMonitor companion app
- Either provide the ID and password to the participant and ask them to enter both in the dedicated field boxes and then tap “Continue" OR ask the participant to tap "Scan QR Code" and then tap “Allow” to access the camera (then take the list of credentials provided by Hyfe and ask the participant to scan the QR code of the ID assigned to the participant)
- Once the participant ID and password are entered and the participant has tapped “Continue” (or the QR code has been scanned) you will see the welcome screen
- Ask the participant to accept the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use by tapping the “Accept and Start” button
- After tapping “Accept and Start,” the participant will be asked to grant access to Bluetooth and notifications
- Once permissions are granted, you will see the screen below, which means the participant is signed in
Pair the Companion App and CoughMonitor
- Before pairing the CoughMonitor and the Companion app, ensure the CoughMonitor and phone are nearby, and that the phone has an Internet connection
- The app will search for the CoughMonitor via Bluetooth and it will show the CoughMonitor’s Unique Identifier (format: H206_######) on the Companion app’s screen once the device is detected (note: in the case there are multiple CoughMonitors nearby, multiple Unique Identifiers will show up -- tap “Pair” and wait until the CoughMonitor it’s successfully connected
- The CoughMonitor will start monitoring automatically once the CoughMonitor is successfully paired with the Companion app; no additional action is required
- Monitoring will remain active until the CoughMonitor is unpaired from the Companion app
- The Bluetooth icon will appear on the CoughMonitor’s screen while Bluetooth is active
- If the battery drains while the monitoring is ON, the monitoring will be paused on the CoughMonitor (if this happens, the participant should charge the CoughMonitor and then open the Companion app -- the watch should appear on the Companion app as “Connected”)
- If the CoughMonitor does not reconnect after opening the app, the participant should tap “Try again,” which will force a reconnection
